Underground Explosion Rocks Savannah

An underground explosion in Savannah, Georgia has rocked the downtown. Underground electrical cables blew off manhole covers. Several fires are reported in the area.
The police received reports at 8:49 a.m. about manhole covers being blown off in the heart of the downtown district. Within an hour three fires that came as a result of the explosion were put out by firefighters.
The cause of the explosion has not been defined as of yet.
Police evacuated shoppers and pedestrians after the initial explosion. business owners and their employees were allowed to remain in their businesses. City Hall staff was given the day off of work. Authorities are urging business owners to do the same.
The downtown area was mostly without power. Extra city police and deputies from Chatham County were called in to direct traffic away from the affected areas.
