A revolutionary film has been launched in London this week featuring a diverse collection of musicians. They have learning difficulties. Working along side those without disabilities, the film has been seen to be a success
The story of the film may have been focused upon before yet those not informed will have a surprise at the collection of musicians who have featured heavily in this diverse new film.

Edgy, focused and forth coming with tackling current UK issues, Heavy Load will prove to be the platform for those who have talent. It also turns the narrow minded in to believing that you can still have extreme abilities even though your actual learning difficulties don't meet the government norm.

The theme is to the time. A punk rock band, very much of their era struggle to find their way into a recording studio and the film follows their two year up hill climb. The band made up of musicians with and without learning difficulties eventually get to release their first album, after much dedication and hard work.

All the situations are present in the movie. Rough clubs, back street pubs, emotional turmoil and repeated heartbreak when the band find themselves moving towards pop rather than punk.

From award winning direction and production Jerry Rothwell and Louise Osmond. A far cry from the world of music, Rothwell is better known for his work on the 1968 round the globe yacht race, called Deep Water.

The band features Jimmy, Michael, Mick and Paul who not only play, but manage the band, book the gigs and promote the band.

The band are eclectic - finding their influences in anything from bubble gum pop to thrash metal. The film even had to get the rights to allow thee band to cover a Kylie Minogue track. The film certainly warrants viewing simply on the strength of that.

Yet to put the music to one side, the band must be allowed other forward thinking motives. One of them being The Stay Up Late Movement - based around a ruling allowing disabled youngsters to stay up later and stay out later than they are currently allowed under their carer's working hours. The whole theme on letting disabled kids be just kids runs through the film like a surging river.

The film, you will be pleased to hear is a true story. The band have written a book about their journey and many albums.

Heavy Load the film is showing in London at the meantime but will spread out to the rest of the UK later on this month.

You can podcast an interview with the band on the BBC Ouch! Website.
