Teenage Girl Recollects Rape At The Hands Of Mugabe's Zanu-PF Militiamen

It has not been long since Robert Mugabe was “reelected” president by using intimidation, fear, and violence, on the people of Zimbabwe with the help of the military and his Zanu-PF Party. Morgan Tsvangirai, the leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Party, had dropped out days before the June 27 runoff election.

While Tsvangirai had won the election back in March, he did not secure the majority needed to avoid a runoff. However, the election results were withheld for several weeks afterwards. Regardless of what happened in the past, Mugabe is still president of Zimbabwe. But, Mugabe is far from satisfied. Mugabe aims to completely solidify “power” in the country.

For many weeks, there has been a campaign of violence against members and supporters of the MDC. South African President Thabo Mbeki has been criticized in his role as key mediator for his soft approach towards Mugabe. Mbeki was on the receiving end of much backlash during the G8 summit in Japan about that. The G8 warned the AU nations that they must take action in Zimbabwe.

Yet, the AU leaders talk about a possible power-sharing agreement. However, a power-sharing agreement in Zimbabwe is highly unlikely to happen. Only chance this could happen is if Mugabe is out of power and his Zanu-PF party neutralized. But those two things are easier said than done.

In the meantime, Mugabe continues to make all of his opponents suffer. Now, the Zanu-PF’s latest tactic is raping girls. Girls in the torture camps have been repeatedly raped by Zanu-PF youths.

17 year old Caroline is one of the victims. While speaking of the ordeal, Caroline was in tears. She explains that many teenagers have been forced into the ranks of Mugabe’s Zanu-PF militia. Caroline was one of them. She explains that she was raped repeated by one militiaman after another.

To make matters worse, Caroline was forced to beat up those that support the MDC. The MDC’s female supporters have already been gang-raped in the wake of the violence.

However, Caroline’s main fear is that she may have contracted AIDS. She does not know if she is pregnant and/or has HIV.

In short, this is Caroline’s story. Caroline fears for her life for good reason.
