Watch Movies on Facebook

by Saikat Basu (Maverick).
Facebook users never had it so good. In another unique move, Facebook teams up with Paramount studios to showcase small clips of movies from Paramount's collection of titles. VooZoo, the new Facebook application launches today.
Facebook, the popular social networking site is adding another member to the host of third party applications already present. In a first Paramount has decided to offer short clips of its movies for viewing for Facebook users, starting Monday. As it launches 'Voozoo' the Facebook application, it becomes the first major Hollywood studio to make thousands of its movie clips available for general use on the internet.

The clips will be of varying duration from several seconds to longer minutes. Now you can watch Tom Hanks murmur, "My momma always said-Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Or, the memorable scenes from Titanic.
"The short clips for a movie that you've already seen before helps you relive the moment,"
Paramount senior vice president of entertainment Derek Broes said. Again, Facebook users can send and share any of the short clips with their friends on the site.

The task of selecting the film clips took more than a year. Though Paramount says that they do not have revenue targets in mind, they expect the VooZoo application to attract a few hundred thousand users within the coming two months. It must be remembered that Facebook has nearly 64 million active users worldwide. It is also one of the most popular photo sharing sites on the internet.

It's not all just pure free entertainment of course; where entertainment goes can marketing and hype be far behind. Full DVD's of the movies will be available for purchase through a button at the end of each clip. In a unique partnership, Paramount plans to use this medium to market future releases as well. According to the report the developers of VooZoo, FanRocket are in talks with other major studios to package their titles as well.

Time to bring out the popcorn. Sounds like fun.
