A shocking video circulating on the Web of a U.S. soldier throwing a puppy off a cliff has prompted a Marine Corps investigation into the incident. The soldier is purportedly based in Hawaii.
Digital Journal — As if the U.S. military weren’t deflecting enough bad press, another deplorable incident has surfaced: a Web video shows a U.S. marine throwing a puppy off a rocky cliff.
The dog’s yelping noises are the animal's final sounds before it disappears from the camera's view. Before the throw, a soldier says, “Oh, what a cute little puppy dog.” Then the offending soldier throws the dog off a cliff. His companion satirically remarks, “That’s mean.”
Military officials are investigating the incident, which supposedly took place on a Hawaiian base. A press release states: “The Marine Corps does not tolerate this type of behavior and will take appropriate action.”
In an interview with DigitalJournal.com, a U.S.Marine public affairs spokesperson said “the investigation is ongoing and we can’t offer any specific details to the incident at this time.” The spokesperson was unable to deny or confirm the video’s authenticity.
Update: The Marine Corps expelled one Marine and disciplining another for their roles in the puppy-throwing incident. Marine Corps Base Hawaii said: "The actions seen in the Internet video are contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine and will not be tolerated."
