A 15-year-old boy from Oxnard, California ,is brain dead but on life support after a school shooting on Tuesday. Lawrence King was shot in the head at E.O. Green Junior High by another teenage boy.
The eighth grader is being kept alive for possible organ donation. He was declared brain dead at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Oxnard Police Department spokesman David Keith announced earlier King was dead.
"I'm sticking with my earlier statement. I was informed by the hospital that he has passed away," Keith said.
The family has requested that the police not make comments on King's medical condition.
The shooter has been arrested and booked for attempted murder. There has not been a motive released other than "bad blood" between the two students. When life support is turned off the charge could become more serious for the shooter. At that time the charge could be upgraded to murder and the use of a firearm in commission of murder.
Three-quarters of the student body returned to school Wednesday. Psychologists held counselling sessions for students needing that resource.
