An article just released by US Weekly Magazine states Heath Ledger, who was recently found dead in his apartment, suffered from serious drug addiction. He was abusing heroine, cocaine and a "variety of pills". His fiance had tried to get him help.
His former fiance Michelle Williams had reportedly driven the actor to the Promises Rehab Center in Malibu, California in March of 2007, but Ledger refused to get out of the car. He told her that he would clean himself up.
The couple broke up in September of that year, stating that they realized they were both "in over their heads". Williams maintained custody of the couples 2-year-old daughter. Following the breakup, according to US Weekly, she demanded that Ledger be drug tested before being allowed to spend any time alone with their child. It has also been reported that the weekend prior to Ledger's death Williams was preparing to go to court to obtain soul custody of the child.
No response has been issued by Ledger's family regarding the story and the allegations therein.
Friends and fellow actors stated that Heath "drank a lot - he drank to get drunk", and report that he started abusing drugs in the open in social situations. He also would arrive home at all hours of the night with his hangers on and proceed to party and do drugs in the home he had shared with Williams.
Rebecca White, who worked as a personal assistant to celebrities who knew Ledger, told the Mail on Sunday his friends blamed his death on tensions with "straitlaced" Williams over their two-year-old.
Six types of prescription pills for anxiety and sleeping problems were found in Ledger’' Manhattan apartment.
Another star burns out due to drug abuse. How tragic.
I guess I would be considered "straitlaced" as well. If I had a boyfriend that was coming home at all hours doing drugs and partying in the home we shared with our 2 year old child, I would do the same thing. She attempted to get him help, and he refused. Her duty was to protect her child, which she apparently was attempting to do. My heart goes out to her.
Reports indicated that she "screamed and cried" as soon as she heard that Ledger was dead.
I am sure she loved him deeply.
So sad.
