The fourth major snowfall of the season is hitting the Maritimes and flights are being cancelled and motorists are being warned to proceed with caution as some areas will also get some freezing rain.
A light snow has been falling all day but at least locally we are not likely to experience the heavy snowfalls that are anticipated to dump another heavy snowfall on the residents of Canada’s east coast.
According to a CBC report many regions throughout Atlantic Canada will ring in the New Year under a heavy blanket of snow. Environment Canada has issued snow warnings and people are being urged to proceed with caution.
The Stanfield International Airport in Halifax, NS has cancelled more than 20 flights and others are delayed. The airports in Moncton NB and Charlottetown PEI are still operating.
This is the fourth major snow of the 2007- 2008 season and some regions have not yet finished cleaning up from the last storm.
Strong winds will reduce visibility while the storm dumps anywhere from 10 to 35 centimeters of snow throughout the region.
