The Ron Paul Revolution has gained a $4.2 million boost with the help of a grassroots fund raising effort on Nov. 5. This total puts him at the top of the Republican Party with more money raised in a single day than any other candidate.
The day also brought a record number of individual donors with more than 37,000 giving up their cash. For those keeping track, that is a little more than $100 per person.
The total also marks the most online donations ever made in a single day. It looks like the Ron Paul "spammers" have found a way to spam the donation page, or maybe people really do support him?
Dr. Paul had raised more than $5 million in the previous quarter and has set a goal of $12 million for the current quarter. A goal that seems more viable everyday, but still out of reach unless there is another big "money-bomb." The total amount for this quarter (at the time of posting) is $7,175,259.00.
The drive was coordinated by ThisNovember5th.com who urged people to "Remember, remember the fifth of November", referring to the day Guy Fawkes was caught in the basement of parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder in a plan to assassinate King James I. Paul's message, however, is not violent; the donations take the place of the gunpowder.
Besides, Congressman Paul does not want to blow up buildings. He wants to destroy federal government agencies like the Drug Enforcement Agency, but those can be taken care of peacefully.
Just to recap, Dr. Paul has been a member of congress for over ten years and also served four terms in the 1970s and 1980s. During that time, he has never voted to raise taxes, never voted for an unbalanced budget, never voted for the Iraq War, never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership, voted against the Patriot Act, and never voted to raise congressional pay or increase the powers of the executive branch.
Paul, a former Air Force flight surgeon, also advocates low taxes and limited government and opposes the Bush administration's security measures that encroach on civil liberties.
Monday was a momentous November 5th that will go down in history as a record setting day. The people have spoken. Remember this day.
