Burglar says TV Show taught him how to rob homes

by Chris V. Thangham.
A man said he learned to rob many homes by watching a Discovery Channel’s TV show “It Takes a Thief”. He was caught and sentenced to 12 years in prison for a series of burglaries in central Kentucky.
Michael W. Hobbs, 36 years old from Wacko, Kentucky, said the Discovery Channel TV show “It Takes a Thiefhelped him how to rob homes easily. The weekly show in Discovery Channel features two ex-convicts who show the home owners how easy it is to steal their home. It offers plenty of tips how to protect home, but shows the vulnerable areas in a home. Michael used the latter tips to rob homes.

Police Maj. Steve Gregg said the ex-convicts in the show used to point out and say skilled burglars typically don’t keep stolen items at their home. Michael did the same, so whenever they interviewed him, he used to tell the police to feel free and search his home.

Michael however made a recurring mistake, he used to show up at the home he planned to steal and ask them whether any repair work needs to be done. That give him away and he was caught finally.

He pleaded guilty to five counts of burglary, and the court sentenced him to 12 years in prison.

Now he can watch “Prison Break” inside prison and plan an escape. I saw this show it is real informative for home owners, but also shows how easily they break into homes and what tricks they follow to break in, which I think was too informative for others to follow like Michael. Some online websites also have too much information for robbers to steal.
