Looking to find search results that span an entire subject? Mahalo.com helps weed out those non-sense sites by presenting you with search results prepared by guides who know how to get the great results! What's more is you can add a result to the SeRP (Search Results Page) and that makes Mahalo.com truly the first people-powered search engine!

Mahalo is the world's first human-powered search engine powered by an enthusiastic and energetic group of Guides. Our Guides spend their days searching, filtering out spam, and hand-crafting the best search results possible. If they haven't yet built a search result, you can request that search result. You can also suggest links for any of our search results.

Becoming a guide can prove to be quite profitable as well! As a Guide, you prepare SeRPs (Search Results Pages) on a huge variety of search topics then submit the pages for review. A Community Manager reviews your SeRP and answers back within 24 hours after you receive a confirmation email. If your SeRP gets approved you earn $10-15.

To become a Guide you only need to input a few pieces of personal information. Don't worry about those lengthy applications some sites have with questions like, "Tell us why you want to make money writing for us." After you register as a new Guide you prepare and submit one SeRP. It's actually quite easy but do take the time to read everything first and make definate use of the templates available. When your first SeRP is approved you can then work on a total of up to five SeRPs at a time. It didn't take me too long to complete the SeRP after I understood the markup language. There is even a spiffy FireFox addon to make things easier for you. Payment via PayPal seals the deal on Mahalo.com -- not sure if it's the first, but it is definately the BEST people-powered search engine. Check ya there!

Jason Calacanis (the guy who founded Weblogs, Inc.) is behind this site, isn't he?

What makes it different than Cha Cha?

I believe he is. It is not at all like ChaCha because there is no live guide. You search results are returned in a page similar to a Wiki of sorts. Then the searcher can add relevant results to the page. Try it out. I wrote a page for "Xanadu" (it's just been made into a musical)!

The whole "people-powered search engine" made it sound like Cha Cha to me, but you're right it's very different.

However, this site will get smoked when Jimmy Wales launches his competitor to Google -- the people-powered search. He's got so much in terms of resources from Wikipedia that it will make it difficult for Mahalo to compete with him, IMO.

Chris, I think that there's a statement somewhere on the site that they have enough funding for five years. That means they have a good chance against Wales.

Tyinquarter, I thought seriously about applying at Mahalo because the pay is good, but the rigidness of the format and having to learn their markup really turned me off. Maybe I'll still give it a go one of these days.

Well if they have funding for five years, it's doesn't mean they will be able to compete. They have a bit of a jump on Wales to develop market share, but Wales has a much bigger following than Calacanis and with Wikipedia already being a multi-billion page resource, Wales' new search engine could be much more feature rich.

I realize Mahalo is still growing and I think the concept is great, but I also find it funny that if it doesn't find anything when you search it provides Google results =)
