A body has been found in the area where searchers were looking for Kelsey Smith, the 18-year-old teenager who was forced into her car by an unknown male last Saturday evening. UPDATE: Tragically, it is confirmed that the body is that of Kelsey Smith.
UPDATE: Police have confirmed Kelsey Smith's body has been found near a shallow creek bed near Longview Lake in south Kansas City in a heavily wooded area.
According to media reports, police have found a body today in the vary area where they were looking for a teenager who has been missing for four days.
Investigators had isolated two signals from Kelsey Smith's cell phone to an area about 15 miles east of the Target store in suburban Kansas City.
Officers from several police departments and the FBI were involved in the search in a woods along a lake.
Several Kansas City television stations and The Kansas City Star reported the discovery of a body, citing unidentified sources. However, officers at the scene have refused to confirm the reports but are planning a news conference for 5 p.m. EDT.
Police were still trying to get information on a young man who was videotaped entering and leaving the Target store within moments of Kelsey. The police do consider the unidentified man as a "person of interest" and not as a suspect.
Kelsey's parents, Greg and Missy Smith, were guests on "The Early Show" today and said that they do not know the man in the surveillance video. "None of our immediate family recognize him," Greg Smith told CBS.
The Smith family had offered a reward for information about Kelsey's disappearance for $30,000. Greg Smith, who is in law enforcement, described his daughter as an outgoing young woman who plans to be a veterinarian.
This is truly troubling news in this story. I will attempt to update this after the news conference.
