Why Google is the best place to work?
Google is profiled in MSNBC and shows what it makes the best place to work. They have 11 Gourmet restaurants that caters the diverse food needs of its workers. All the food is free, health fitness center is available near them, volleyball courts near the work place, barber comes to the worker, company massage, car wash is free, all the perks provided free. Google also gives $5000 to the employee, if they drive a hybrid to work, in some cases they have luxury company buses with free wireless that drives them to work. Laundry is free, doctors are provided at work place. One doctor working on the campus says Google workplace is like Utopia, where the workers appreciates the fellow human beings, appreciate the environment.
Fortune 500 magazine ranked them the "Best Place to Work for" for the above mentioned reasons. The editor says, all these perks are free, workers come casual, ride skates, and they all seem to have a great time and most importantly the workers are extremely happy. The Google gets in return from them; extreme loyalty, people love to work even at odd hours (no grumbling about work from them) and great productivity that makes them grow phenomenal. How they maintain this culture in the long run will be a problem as Google grows. They are receiving 3,000 applications a day, 1 million applications a year total for 4,000 jobs. How Google is successful compared to other larger companies is, they have small creative teams, highly flexible, and highly motivated teams able to accomplish any tasks with ease. The workers say they are more happy to work at Google than any place they ever worked previously.
Hope other work places implements at least a few of these perks to motivate their workers.
