The album in question is called The Wu — Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, and The Wire reports that only one copy of the album will ever see the light of day. It will be sold privately, in a “hand carved nickel-silver box designed by the British Moroccan artist Yahya,” according to the group’s website.
It continues: “Contemporary art is worth millions by virtue of its exclusivity. This album is a piece of contemporary art.”
Once Upon a Time in Shaolin is a double album consisting of 31 tracks. Once the sale is made, the album will reportedly be made available to listen to only at festivals, museums and art galleries via headphones to avoid piracy.
Though hip-hop fans may not be hearing Once Upon a Time in Shaolin any time soon, fans will be able to get their hands on A Better Tomorrow, another upcoming album that will be released through all the regular channels.
